Hi to all
I have a friend that is rebuilding a 1974 CJ-5 jeep from the frame up. We would like to know how to get the play out of the steering |

Re: tighten steering 1974 cj-5 jeep
Check all the steering components ( tie rod ends , idler arm , etc. ) for any signs of excessive play and replace any that are loose . Some steering boxes have an external adjustment feature that allows you to tighten the steering box internal components to eliminate excessive clearances , not sure about a Jeep ? If it is beyond tightening , you'll have to replace it ! I'd suggest finding a Jeep specific forum for more specific advice . Do a Google search for " Jeep Forums " , there should be many online . Good luck !

Once all that is done, have an alignment done. Make sure the shop dials in the maximum specified Caster, if it's adjustable on that vehicle. That will give you nice "on-road" feel when you aren't out tearing up the back 40. |
