Question water system problem

i have a porsche 928 from the late 80's. the water system has been messing up, i already took out the thermostat but it still seems as if the water isnt flowing. once the car gets warm, the water gets so hot it boils and steams and creates tremendous pressure. air pockets maybe? if any body has occured the same problem and knows a solution, im all ears.

Re: water system problem

Do a cylinder leak test, to see if its your headgaskets, or a carbon test is my fav.

Your thermostat probably stuck in the closed position. Mine did that. You can take it out, but then the water just flows from one side of the block/head to the other. It is not forced through the radiator. You need a new therostat. I got a nice new Daimller-Benz thermostat from 928 International. It has a little bleed ball so you don't even have to worry about getting the air out as you normally would.

I was on a very long day trip when that happened to me. The only way I could cool the engine was to run the heater full blast and drive really slow. Forget about using the AC, that will just make the engine hotter. I had a gallon of water and kept dousing myself while I ran the heat on full. I made it home the scenic way, ~160 miles across New Mexico in the middle of summer.
