Brake Rotors
I have recently taken my 2009 Kia Optima for servicing, I asked the dealer to look at my brakes, they were shimmering when I applied them at high speeds, also squeaking at lower speeds. I was informed the rotors were warped and needed turning. I was astonished that the rotors were not covered under the warrenty as I only have 19,000 Mile on the car. How long do rotors last? is this normal to have to turn the rotors at 19,000 miles. Also I have had the dealer rotate the tires twice in the 19,000 miles. any suggestions or answers?

Re: Brake Rotors
Not uncommon to have warped or uneven rotors at that mileage. My rotors had to be turned at 21,000. After 12,000 miles or one year the freebies go away from the standard car warranty. So the cost to turn the rotors is correct. As for the tire rotation, every 5,000 miles is a good number. Hope this helps!

Re: Brake Rotors
Rotors should not warp this quickly -- if pads are good quality 30-40,000 miles should be the norm -- then the rotors should be skim cut prior to installing new pads -- something is not right with your situation
