Help Please 92 Olds Eighty-Eight
Hi,
This is my first post. I have a 92 Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight. The car wont start unless I have the passenger door open. When I close the door after it is started the car shuts off. I checked the battery cables all are tight and not corrodid. I checked the fuses all are good. A friend told me to check the plunger on the door..... I dont have a plunger. I took the door panel(passenger side) off and a friend jumped a blue connection (I dont know what it does) with a paper clip and the car would stay running with the door closed, but the paper clip got hot. My friend told me to drop it off and he would have a friend of his look at it. When I went to start the car (with paper clip in blue connection) the car would run with the passenger door closed but not with the drivers door closed. They check with an ohmeter and the resistor and it was off so they went and got a resistor and the car ran and started no problem . I drive it to work and it dies as I pull into spot and also when the car dont start my power seat and windows will not work. So I rigged it with a book and seat belt and drove it home(with passenger door open).... Can someone please help... I have a 3 yr old daughter, this is my only car!!!! Re: Help Please
Have you checked the basics like fuel pressure? If no fuel pressure you mave have a bad ground under the l/s front sill plate and carpet. There is a multiple splice ground in that harness for the windows and fuel pump.

Re: Help Please
When the interior light comes on and I know the car will start I can hear the fuel pump kick on. When the light don't come on I can't hear it. Can u tell me exactly where to look and what color the wire is. I have a book that I bought along time ago from Auto Zone but I don't understand the diagram for the wiring. I am now on my own with this car.
I appreciate your time, Thank you very much. |

Re: Help Please
Left side, BTW do not just let someone jump wires, not good!! You must remove front l/s sill plate, peel back the carpet and untape the harness, you will see a multi joint soldered ground junction that may be corroded ar not making proper contact. Also I would suggest you get some professional help with this.

Re: Help Please
I wish I could but I can't. No money. I am on my own. I am going to try to check it my self. If the wire is corroded what should I do. Cut and splice together????

Re: Help Please
There should be a mutiple wire soldered junction, this must be respliced and soldered, they are a group of black wires, careful here this is really not a "dyer" type job for a first timer. Check some of the posts in this thread, especially the last one. http://www.automotiveforums.com/t250962.html

Re: Help Please
By the hood release there are a bunch of wires that I can see (there is no cover there) running into the firewall. There are multiple colors. I am sorry but I want to make sure I understand. I dont know alot I know some. In the past I have worked on different cars, nothing electrical. Do I have to do anything to the ignition switch or steering column?
There is a red wire running from the same area all the way to the trunk area what is that wire for??? Thank you so much for your patience! |
