anti-freeze leak somewhere?

Hello everyone, i am having a dilemma with my car and after looking at many youtube videos on suspected problems and fixes the one thing keeps coming up about problematic O-Rings in the upper radiator hose and the thermostat T-Connecor pipe. My issue is if i am draining the cooling system on an 85,000mile car is it worth it to just change the o-rings or should i go all out while i have it dis-assembled and change everything in the cooling system. In the fall i had to add about 2 liters of premix anti-freeze and i went to start it the other day and it was at operating temp and the degauss bottle was empty again, as i cannot see anything leaking under the car bot car smell the fragrant aroma of anti-freeze i figure it was probably going to be the o-rings,thermostat,or waterpump... i figure why not ask people's opinion as i won't be driving the car till march/april i can get the work done and pray....i am not one for doing a job half ways when i can get it done and not have to worry about it again the only thing i didn't price was heater hoses every thing else come in at under 600 dollars.. also if anyone has a copy of a repair manual for this car let me know where you got it as i can only find one that's online

Re: anti-freeze leak somewhere?

You didn't say which engine you have, I'm going to guess the 3.7 V6. Just some general info for others reading. If it was the water pump most likely the main return hose would show some collapse and the reservior tank wouldn't be as empty. There is a main heater return line that comes out the back of the engine that when it leaks sometimes does it on a route that puts it onto the exhaust which burns it away and you don't see the leak underneath. If it is that multi-junction fitting at the front, definitely change the O-rings. I don't remember if that engine has a lower-intake with coolant passages, the gasket for that in some Ford V6 like to go bad around the passages and send the coolant into the combustion chamber burning it away, with some also going into the oll pan so check for increased level on the oil dipstick. My suggestion is change the O-rings and if more disappears, then get a pressure test done on the system for a better idea of a different leak.

Re: anti-freeze leak somewhere?

Hi thanks for your input...i thought i put it in there but it's the 2014 5.0L and going from what i saw on youtube it's it worn O-Rings on the thermostat t-connector but like i said if i am going to tear into it that far another 6 bolts the water pump could be taken out and replaced..but i won't know if it is till i take the serpentine belt off and check and see if there is play in the shaft....
