2014 Silverado parasitic drain?

I'm working on a 2014 Silverado 5.3 automatic.

When everything is sitting in sleep mode (over 3 hours), the current draw is anywhere between 11 and 17 milliams.

Occasionally, it will spike up to 122 milliamps for about 30 to 45 seconds.

Is this normal? I did have a different draw that would kill the battery overnight. It would wake up the BCM about 10 times an hour. I fixed that...just want to make sure this is back to normal.

I read somewhere that it would jump up to 100mA once in a while. But the problem was that the truck would periodically be dead like 12 hours of sitting still. But there was a driving monitor connected to the OBDII port, and it would wake up the BCM about 10 times an hour. The draw was like 4 amps for 30+ seconds. After I unplugged the monitor (it's label said TIWI on it), the drain reduced to 100mA to 17mA.

what is the model # of the driving monitor ?
I have scan gauge connected never had any problems coming on after the ignition is switched off.

I got it ,,,,,,,,,,,, The Tiwi Driving Monitor tracks and records everything from speed to how sharp turns are taken. Parents can then monitor the data retrieved and even set limits as to where their kids can drive and how far over the speed limit they can go. Tiwi is available now and runs from $299-$599.

so with 5 min every hour the device uses 4 amps I would say the battery needs replacing if only sitting for 12 hrs down in Texas.

these type trucks have a history of early battery failures due to the high heat where the battery is mounted..

load test the battery.

This thing was waking up the bcm every 5 minutes. I unplugged it and 3 days later the truck would still start without issues. But just as a follow through, the battery was replaced with a higher capacity battery a month prior for that exact reason.

I would still load test the battery , also check the charging system.

12 hrs with the 5 MIN @4AMPS per hr . the battery should handle that.

perhaps the device is not shutting down as you mention . perhaps it stays on @4AMPS for a much longer time than 5min every hr.

do you have a chart recorder showing this on/off current drain ?

the manufacturer should be notified if you believe this will damage the vehicles electrical system and cause expensive repairs and service.

I believe that product is no longer being sold and was probably dropped due to operating issues. could be the device does stay on much longer than you have observed.

I think you're missing a vital part of my information. It's not daining once an hour. It's draining almost TEN TIMES an hour.

30sec 10 times every hour is 5 min. 5min with 4AMP drain should not prevent a cold start in a 12 hour period ,BUT I do believe the device is F'ed up.

also this device is no longer being sold and could have been dropped by the distribution company due to the issues your dealing with.

Lol my bad. I didn't think about it that way. Well, I only monitored it for an hour. Who knows what it did when I wasn't watching it....

The guy I'm working with is taking it to the monitoring people. I'll post back when I hear the solution. But for now, it's unplugged and everything is back to normal.
