I have the same problem with a '99 escort wagon. I have just replaced the rear hatch gasket but I don't think this is the problem. Due to the quantity of water entering the vehicle (the spare tire well fills up), I suspect one the side windows or rear hatch glass seal is comprimised. Looking at the window seal design does not look like this is going to be a cheap fix. I will keep you updated.

I'm having the same problem with my 98 Escort. Here's what I've found - Remove your passenger seat and plastic threshold pieces to allow you to lift the carpet up. I'll bet your leaking where the corrugated metal floorboards attach to one another. It looks as though it should have been caulked, but it probably wasn't.
After pulling the carpet back, wait until dark or have the car in your garage. Place a light under your vehicle, and I bet you'll see the light shining through your floor board. I fixed 3 spots in mine. I also have another leak behind the dash on the passenger side that I have not been able to track down. Good Luck. |

Re: Water Leaks 1995 Ford Escort
Hi all I have a escort 1995 hatchback 5 door. I kept getting water in spare wheel compartment and back floor. after completely drying & cleaning it all out I got inside so I could see where it was coming in and hubby sprayed with hose pipe. Found it. !!! water was coming through the rubber cover which is just above rear head lining. \think it covers the wires for heated rear screen. then it runs inside and down into boot and under back seats. sorted it with "Tiger seal" all around the edge. Brilliant stuff. Hope this helps.
