Cooling fan not turning on at all... Help please?

Hello y'all,
I have a '97 ES300.

today I noticed my radiator steaming. NOT smoking, but steaming and the cooling fan wasn't running. The car doesn't overheat, and picks up to operating temperature fairly quick from cold.

I've searched other threads regarding this problem, but all issues are about the cooling fan operating at odd speeds.

Mine is not turning on at all...

Any help appreciated? THank you

was your antifrezze full when to took rad cap after you let it cool off? because steam sounds like you have a leak in the rad or hose? also can rual out water pump.

radiator and coolant reservoir full.

there are def. no leaks in the system.

the whole radiator itself was steaming.

oddly enough, it started working today

who knows lol

did you look and see if you have any green spots on front and back of rad that tells you theres a leak? theres got to be something getting on your rad to make it steam.

good luck....

No wet spots at all on or near the radiator.
no leaks on the ground.

It was raining heavily that morning, maybe the rain made the radiator steam?

The steaming could be from condensate on the radiator after the rain or simply from the cool, humid air. If there was a leak, the engine would get slightly hot and would not be able to hold pressure in the system. If boiling is heard after a good drive, then there is a system leak. Look all long the radiator face for white deposits to indicate a leak. You can also use a cooling system pressure test kit to apply pressure while working on a cool engine.

The cooling fans are operated by a coolant temperature switch located in the bottom of the radiator on the side nearest the firewall, usually somewere in the middle. If you unplug this, the fans should turn on and stay on as long as the ignition key is "ON"...engine does not need to be running. You can probe the switch when it is hot and cold...it will be closed when cold and open when hot.

Hope this helps!
