95 Achieva S stalls when put in reverse from park

We have an Achieva S that stall when shifted from park to reverse. If you start the car in neutral it goes into reverse without stalling. I have a feeling it might be electrical in nature but am not sure. Any ideas would be appreciated. The speedometer also seems to be acting funny. needle moving all over but it does it on and off

check and clean wiring plugs on tranny
theres three of them

one for the shifting shaft mechanism and two others farther towards driver side of the tranny, harness plugs,

use electrical contact spray cleaner

check for any bad vacuum hoses too


theres a small plastic one down next to the vacuum modulator valve on the front side of the tranny it likes to break commonly, brittle


just happened to me three days ago while i was getting ready to pull the 4t60e trans from a 95 grand am i was replacing the trans in, in which is back together and been like brand new for two days now

for some unknown reason the trans in it burned up at only 60k miles
