Re: I like Catalinas and Parisiennes!
I love my Catalina! im going to have to post some pics here of it i guess. Right now its getting new rear quarter panels and a new trunk floor. They only made 1500 Catalinas in 1972 that was a 2 door, hard top, with a 400. Everybody wanted convertables that year cause they made more of those than the hard tops. Its not in the best shape but i have every single piece of paper on it from 72' on through this year. Its a MONSTER!!!! But if I ever get into a wreck I hope im driving the Catalina. The brakes it has pretty much suck, and it steers like a lincoln, but believe it or not they did make bigger cars back then.

My uncle had a 66 catalina. That thing was sweet! I think he said he wants to get another one someday.

Re: I like Catalinas and Parisiennes!
My first nice car was a 66 Catalina (like the white one in the first post), except yellow with a black vinyl top. I bought it in the spring of 67 and it only had 10,000 miles on it. The car was a real nice running car and it took me to California in 1970 while I was in the USAF. The downside was the car did not have AC. It could easily cruise at 100 mph (across the Bonneville salt desert) and actually got "good" gas milage for a 389 2BBL in that heavy car (18-19 mph on 101 octane).
I came back from California in 1972 in the car after I got discharged. I traded it in later that year for my first new car a Chevy Vega GT wagon The 66 was the nicest looking of the big Pontiacs of that era. |

Re: I like Catalinas and Parisiennes!
So, these cars are still around? I never really heard of one until recently. A 400 huh? They put some beefy engines in these, but how heavy are they? Probably close to 4,000lbs?

Re: I like Catalinas and Parisiennes!
That's a purdy '66! My '66 was a Ventura ("upgraded" Cat). It too, got decent fuel mileage for such a large car, and it handled pretty well.
We now have a '69 Cat wagon with the original 428 still in it. We also have a '63 2-door hardtop. Those are both in pretty nice shape. We have a '62 2-door sedan (coupe, whatever...) that was an NHRA record holder in '65, with a 389-4 bbl. and 3-on-the-tree. Car went low 13s! It's in pretty rough shape, though. Someone sanded all the paint and primer off, then left it in the rain... We're gonna TRY to bring her back. My uncle and a former father-in-law both bought new '72 4-door cars with the 400. NICE cruisers. A good friend in Tucson had a '71 2-door with 455 in it. Sure surpised muscle cars on I-10! Cool cars, Catalinas! Jim |
