Unhappy 99 Solara 'hiccups' at steady speed

HI all, I've got a question. I've got a 1999 Solara V6 that just recently started to slightly 'hiccup' at a steady speed, you can feel it while driving. It doesn't do it during acceleration. The car has 84k miles on it. I changed the fuel filter hoping this was the problem, but no luck, still does the same thing. Any other suggestions? The plugs were changed less than a year ago. Am I looking at a spark problem, or fuel problem? Is this a sign of a fuel pump starting to fail? Thanks for any help!

You may have a vacuum leak somewhere.

It could be something with the torque converter (assuming yours is an automatic). Something with the stall / lock up speed. I know in my car you can unplug the stall sensor from the top of the torque converter and fix problems like that, at the cost of worse MPG. Might be worth a try on yours. On mine it's a connection with 4 blue pins going into the top of the bell housing.

I've had a similar problem in a Nissan, and after changing engine mounts and a couple other high priced items, nothing changed, except my wallet shrunk.

One day I decided to change the spark plug cables, and then the problem went away. Had a bad cable, which was the reason for the stutter in my car.

to see if it is the cables, wait until its pretty dark to where you need a flashlight to see under you hood. then start the car and look for sparks coming from the cables.

If its the same problem I had on my 97 avalon. It was the EGR valve. It cost $230 at my toyota dealer(don't do aftermarket). My Avalon had a hesatition feel at hiway speeds, just like a slight hicup feel. On the Avalon it took 20 min to replace. I had/have a post on Toyota Avalon forum. Hope it helps good luck
