Angry Tail lights stay on after keyless entry, battery runs down

Yesterday I noticed that using the keyless entry on my 2001 Sable caused the tail lights of my 2000 Sable to come on. The lights stayed on until I opened and shut the door of the 2000 Sable. This morning the battery is dead on the 2000 Sable. It is charging as I type, but the problem with the lights is still there. It doesn't seem to matter which keyless remote I use (2000 or 2001), either one causes the lights to stay on until the door is opened/closed. Could this be a low voltage problem? I don't drive the 2000 very much, once a week at most. I've had both cars for about 6 months, this is the first I've observed this problem. It's not such a big issue that they come on, but not going off is obviously a problem. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,
Tim

Does it have the adjustable pedals? If yes, it's the brake light switch. It will make your brake light stay on. That has had two(2)(!) recalls since 2000.
