check engine light

my wifes 2003 sable's engine light came on after it sat for a week. I filled it up with gas and have drove it about 100 miles but the light is still on. The warranty ran out last month so I hate to take it back to the dealer. Anyone have any ideas?

Call the Parts desk at the dealership and ask them to look up the fuel rail pressure sensor. Ask them how much the part is and where it is located. They can look it up on their computer and tell you that info. It may be a repair that you can do yourself and save yourself some money.

I took it back to the dealer after the light came back on and they said there was nothing wrong, there is no fuel rail presure sensor [it is only a code] so they turned off the light charged me $35 and said to come back if it comes on again. FAT CHANCE!!!!
If I do anything I'll invest my money in a code reader surely I can do as much as they did.

Re: Re: check engine light

they did say it was caused by a glitch in the fuel system - fuel sloshing around in tank, hard acceleration or bad gas

$35!!!!!!! You do realize that Autozone can do the exact same thing for free right? Heck even you can erase the code by disconnecting the battery!

Re: check engine light

light came back on but this time you could barely accelerate. my wife barely limped it back to the dealer. they spent a day and a half diagnoising it then put on a new fuel pump $591 for pump and labor.
I'm ready to go back to points, rear wheel drive and all the low tech stuff that are cheap and easy to repair

AMEN I have been trying to get the Check engine light off on my 2000 for over a year now. Nothing works with mine.
