LS1 vs LS1

Quick little run last night. I saw a GTO coming up from behind me. It was red, clean, and sexy. I originally thought it was LS2 because of the hood he had. Seeing the exhaust later told the truth.

I went ahead and put it second gear when he jumped over to get beside me. We were right beside each other at 40 mph and he downshifted. I said fuk it and stomped it and got the jump and 1 1/2 cars on him and held it till 90 when I shut down due to very loud screams coming from the passenger seat.

The g/f is a party pooper. He had exhaust for sure and was manual.

I will see him again because I've seen him around alot lately.

Re: LS1 vs LS1

Nice kill, from what i've seen, the ls1 gto's have been noticeable slower then the f bodies. Don't they outweigh your car by about 300-400 lbs

They're an easy 300lbs heavier. But make more power, rated at 350hp.. but make a bit more. In the 370 range. ... I think.

The guy that tuned my car told me that an LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1.

He said that the f-body LS1 were underated because of the vette and that they are rated at 350and thats why most LS1s dyno at 300ish to the rear wheels...

That's what I've heard as well.

A bunch of us went to one of the local dyno's on saturday and a trans am ls1 went on the dynojet with just a cat back. Put down 327whp/339wtq

This is true to an extent. Each year the LS1 got a bit better than the previous.

If you dyno a stock zero mile 1997 LS1 against a stock zero mile 2004 LS1, the 2004 motor will make a lot more power. Mostly because in 2001, the LS1 got a LS6 intake manifold stock, and a milder cam.

Re: LS1 vs LS1

That I'm not sure about... probably revised camshaft profiles and ecu tuning.

This is true. I forgot about the LS6 intake.

With a milder cam on the later models would that mean if I had the LS6 intake I would have a better top end.

I doubt I understand the workings of a cam all the way but a mildercam would have less top end right?

Re: LS1 vs LS1

Depends on it's settings, cams are magical things... it can make or break your setup.

They changed the cam with the LS6 intake mainly to keep the power equal but also to help with emissions.

Wow, I wonder if he was using the same dyno as Gotian used on his Jetta. On the LS1 forums I have seen they usually dyno between 280-300 at the wheels on a reasonable dyno.

Re: LS1 vs LS1

The guy that tuned my car told me his 02 Z28 with just LID and exhaust made 323hp to the wheels.

I was thinking of takeing my car to a dyno day here in C-Bus on the 14th. 3 pulls for $65.

Re: LS1 vs LS1

I dunno, there were a bunch of others who went on as well, and they all seemed to be right on or even a little low.

an older 350z (not the hr motor) made about 230whp, new cobalt ss with boltons were making 270ish, one with upped boost and tune made 290, ion redline with exhaust and im not sure what else made 230...
