1997 Excessive Steering play

I have a 1997 Quest and The steering play is about 8 to 10 inches. Do you think it's the rack or the power steering pump. Can anyone tell me? I checked the rack and there doesn't seem to be any external leak showing. I also check the pump and there is a leak in the line. cananyone help me?

Re: 1997 Excessive Steering play

I would suggest a new rack. I would also look at the tie rods.

Re: 1997 Excessive Steering play

that end play is due to worn out rubber bushings that hold the rack in place speciallythe one on the drivers side
