Re: good drifting cars...

you can drift in any RWD car. Including the AWD cars, with any HP, as long as you have the technique in the game u can. I can. i can drift with any stock car that can drift in that game. there are lots of ways to drift in the game, but for me the easiest way to drift is go to settings and put the TCS at one and ASM at 0. This will work for any car IF you are good enough.

Re: good drifting cars...

i was reading an article that was about the creator of gran turismo, and he said that the drifting in gt3 is not supposed to happen, and the physics creators called it something like a miracle, but anyway, in gt3 the drifting is'nt totally real, it doens't have the true handling that a real car would in drifting, but that'll be changing in gt4 according to the article, btw it was on wired or something i found it on the net

Re: good drifting cars...

you could use a evo and add yaw control and take all of the assist off and supersoft tires, if you want to get use to sliding in turns, but i use a rx7 tuned to about 350hp all assist off and supersoft tires; and my settings, i belive everyone should experiment and find the setting good to them, .....................................fastes time in a trueno shigheno version stock at deep forest race way 2 is (1.19.95)

.........you could also do it with FF cars using hand brake but you loose speed in the turns!

locking up the rear wheels and not hitting the wall is not what I'd consider drifting...if you've ever seen tsuchiya drift you would never have said that...a rwd or awd drifting is impressive and awe inspiring...esp if its a mid engined car like the mr2 or nsx...

a civic dragging ass looks like shit...

Anyway...my favorites to drift are the gen2 and 3 rx7s...they seem to have the best balance...I don't like a lot of power and I never use a hugely moded car...

my setup is this:

parts
race suspension
sport brakes w/ brake controller
chip
port and polish
sport intake
lightened flywheel (not racing)
sport clutch (first or second one)
racing trans
2 way diff
sport tires / normal tires (F/R)

settings
TCS and ASC (whatever they are called, set to zero)
suspension softened a few points or left at stock levels (until you get used to the car)
weakened damper and rebound levels (a point or two, until you get used to drifting)
stabilizers weakened 1 level
front brakes raised 1 point stronger
tranny set so that the last line (gear six) hits the top right corner of the screen (makes it so you have to shift less)
some camber (usually only a little)
and .5-1.0 rear toe-out (too much and the car will only be good for drifitng as it will never drive straight unless you constantly correct it)

I keep the hp between 275 and 350 usually...most times a right around 300...this is enough to get the tires in the rear loose..but not enough where you depend solely on powering over (that's the easy way to do things)

I think that's about it...try faints, power-overs, and brake drifting before you try dynamic or e-brake drifting...the easiest is a combo of faint/power-over and a little tap of the brakes to upset the balance of the car before the turn...

lastly...never just press hard on the gas with a high hp car...that's gay drifting...you can do that with an indy car...control the x button and only give it enough to keep the car sideways using the steering to correct too much oversteer...too much understeer and add a slight bit of power...once you get it good you will be able to drive around corners barely using the steering and completely control the turn with the x-button...it's fun as hell...

have fun...and tell us what car you like best for drifting...the physics engine really lends itself well to this...

if you lock up your tires and hit the wall, means you suck and you cant contro a ff car in a critical situation, i can, i go into the turn handbrake for like .5 sec and countersteer and you should be fine, and yes the best cars to drift are the FC and FD (incase you dont know what the hell an FC is; :Rx7 inifini 3 FD:rx7 type rz/rs)

watch some real drift videos or some of the better gt3-based drifter videos...they don't use ff because you can't do a huge drift, you can't even control the drift...in real life you can a little because the ebrake can be variable...in gt3 you just press the button, I don't use it much, but I'm pretty sure it's not analog.

On the complex string course I can maintain a drift for multiple turns without losing speed...let's see your ff do that shit...psuedo drifting is what ff dorifto is...
