Punto's history

Nobody in there.

A bit of history about the Punto is required then.

It was launched in 1993, to replace the Uno. Designed by Giugiaro, it made its opponents suddenly look older, and was elected car of the year 1994.
In terms of accomodation, style, handling and ride and resistance agaisnt shocks, it was top of the range at the time.

At first, 5 engines were available, from 55 bhp to 136 bhp in the terrific GT.
Then a dull 1.6 was introduced in 1995, replaced with an very revvy 1.2 16V in 1997.
There also was a cute convertible Punto, made by Bertone.

It was Europe's best seller in 1997, with roughly 600000 copies.

Eventually, it was replaced by the Punto II in 1999, a car that didn't meet the same success.
