2003 eclipse blown speakers Help

okay i blew my speakers today, and as far as i know they are still factory speakers...i am the second owner of my 3G mitsubishi eclipse, i do know they had a dvd player instead of the cd player but switched them back out when i bought it.and thats the only change i know of. how am i supposed to know which ones i blew??
Cause i blast my music to drown out the mysterious noise in the rear which not 1 of 6 mechanics could figure out for 2 weeks after taking my entire back end completely apart. So odds are, all of them but how do i know for sure??
And what would you recommend me replacing them with?

Re: 3G blew my speakers Help

I always just fade my speakers to right side then left side or to the front speakers and then back speakers and listin for a scratchy sound. You will know which one it is. You don't have to turn them way up either to hear the bad one. Turn the volume up and down to each speaker, you will hear the blown one making a scratching sound.

Alpine are good but a little on the expensive side. I always just go with pioneer speakers. Sound good and fairly cheap.

Re: 3G blew my speakers Help

Anytime I buy speakers I got with pioneers. I have put them in 2 cars and just put a set in my truck this week. Never have blown one and I play the shit out of them. I also have most of the bass out of them tho. Thats what usually blows the speakers.

I'd say just be smart about it, you start hearing distortion then back off a little and keep adjusting until you them out without distortion. I have always liked pioneer's products. I use to rock 2 10" pioneers and they sounded nice till the day I sold them. There decks are really nice too.

Re: 3G blew my speakers Help

Sorry, I typed that up on my phone and I didn't proof read.

Pioneer makes some great products for a great price. If your trying to get a lot of bass out of any speaker, it's important to know where to stop when turning them up. What I usually do is just turn the bass all the way down, then I start adjusting the speakers by selecting what ever channel I want to adjust 1st. Then I start turning the volume up to where I feel is pretty comfortable for everyday cruising. Then start adding your low, mid, and high levels. Usually the high level in my opinion sounds the best around +1, anything more than that seems to sound too loud in the vocals. Then I do the Low level (bass). Usually I turn it up to around +1 and then I adjust the mids. They just kinda fill in the middle sound, keeps the flow just right. Sometimes turning the bass all the way up is not the best way to get a lot of bass. I remember when my setup was turned to -4 bass and my setup hit hard, going any higher than that always seemed to lower the quality of the music.

Cliff notes:
-Bass all the way up, sometimes not the way to go.
-start with highs->then lows->then mids to level out the sound till it sounds just right.

I've been told that I have a good ear for setting up my friends stereos so I hope this helps you in some way.

Re: 3G blew my speakers Help

ooohhhh okay see that makes more sense.
not complete lol but prolly as much as i can take in.
cliff notes helped

but i keep bass all the way up along with music to do some noise damage (drown out the noise from my back end when im going about 9, 10 MPH and all the way up to as fast as she can go)

Re: 3G blew my speakers Help

I also adjust the speakers so the rear speakers are a little louder than the front like
F----I--R
Also I think the rear speakers tend to do a better job making bass.
