Question First Time Buyer Help

Hey guys, this is my first post on these forums.
I am going to be soon buying a subwoofer for my car.
I have been a car enthusiast since I was a kid, but I am now just starting to really do things with my car. I recently installed new door speakers, but now I want to do a subwoofer, and I don't know if I just need to buy the subwoofer and then wire it all in. or do I need an amp also? I'm not sure if I need an amp or not.
Or if I should just put it in the trunk? where do woofers usually go?
I already have the speaker box for it all.

Sorry again, I know a little bit about engines, but car audio is a new field I am into.
And I gotta learn somewhere.

Re: First Time Buyer Help

at a minimum you will need a sub, a box (that you already have), a 500 watt or so amp and LOC (line output converter) that will get the signal from the rear speakers to play the sub(s). Subs most normally go in the trunk/hatch because of the size of the speaker and the box.

Thanks a lot Paul, I just needed a little bit of clarification.

What type of car do you have? Not sure if the pic in your sig is your car.

If you're putting a sub, you will need an amp. But there are also other things involved, so let's start with exactly what are you looking to do. A general layout helps alot in determining what you need and will need to do.
