steering wheel shaking, pulling to the right
So today I was driving down the highway and I caught this little groove where they were repaving the road and the car kind of jerked. I'm not sure if this is exactly when my problem started but I think it might be.
Now my steering wheel shakes back and forth about 2 inches as I drive and my car pulls to the right pretty bad. I have ruled out the tires by putting the spare on to each side and driving and I still have the problem. I tried shaking the tires in and out to see if it was a wheel bearing or cv joint or something like that and it doesn't seem to be an issue either. Outer tie rod ends appear to be tight and I don't see any physical damage when I remove the wheels. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: steering wheel shaking, pulling to the right
Maybe you bent a hub? Have you checked to see if the wheels are rotating true when there spun on the car. Jack up the front end so both wheels are off the ground, have somebody start it and put it into gear while you watch the wheels.

Re: steering wheel shaking, pulling to the right
I put the spare on and the symptoms do not change so it is not the tire or rim.

Maybe a bad ball joint? I've had to replace both of mine.

Re: steering wheel shaking, pulling to the right
I read that in the original post. What I am saying is if the hub (the part the wheel is bolted to) is bent the wheel can still wobble even if the wheel itself is true and the tire is good. It doesn't happen that often but it can. Watching the wheels while they rotate will determine if this is the case or not.

Re: steering wheel shaking, pulling to the right
Got it fixed. It did end up being the tires, specifically the front left one, there was a bulge on the outside that was forcing the car to the right. I replaced all 4 though because the tires were in terrible shape.
Thanks for all your help. |
