need help, 98 explorer sport wont start all the time
I have a 98 explorer sport 4.0l sohc engine. Has trouble starting. This is a new problem only 3 days ago did it start. It cranks but doesnt want to start and when it does the rpms are too low to keep it going. After about 5 or 6 tries it finally starts up. Changed out the spark plugs, wires, coil pack, battery, fuel filter, checked all fuses and relays, all hoses and wires, no vacuum leaks, intake gaskets are fine...anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this?

Re: need help, 98 explorer sport wont start all the time
My guess is the idle air control valve (IACV). Here is a link to a YouTube video of a guy cleaning one. It will show you what one looks like and how to clean. You may just want to replace it if they are cheap enough, the video will at least show you what they look like and the most common mounting position for them in a Ford.

Re: need help, 98 explorer sport wont start all the time
Do you have a way to check the fuel pressure and for spark when the truck won't start? Or maybe can you spray some throttle body cleaner in the intake when it won't start to see if that will get it to attempt to start? Without understanding what is missing when it won't start, all anyone can do is guess what the issue may be.
