Ford Smart System workaround ..??
I am currently going through some no-charge issues with my 1999 Windstar 3.8. I have replaced a couple of reman "Carquest" alternators from Advance. They test well at the store, but don't work for me at all when installed. I see plenty of comments from unhappy customers concerning this product, but I'm kinda stuck with it at the moment.
Looking on You Tube @ Ford "Smart Charge System" alternator not working , Eric, starting at about 23 minutes in, shows how to get full (depending on rpm and load) alternator voltage output by disconnecting the three conductor connector. Engine running, more than idle rpm.... Has anyone done this and could comment? ...does it work, if the alternator is OK? |

Re: Ford Smart System workaround ..??
If it still isn’t fixed, use another source for rebuilt alternators. I had a similar problem with Nissan remands at Pep Boys years ago. Three all had bad diodes
Got one from a Nissan dealer remanufactured by them. End of problem |
