Re: P1404

I couldnt buy a mazda, too many ford parts

The 6 is built on the ford fusion platform and the 3 is built on the ford fungus platform. The good part though is they arent just rebadged fords, they have some mazda parts and styling. I do like the looks of the both the 3 and 6 though.

BTW, I would take an RX-8 if someone happened to give me one for my bday next month

Re: P1404

I went to the junkyard today and of course there were no Rodeos in there. I saw some EGR's from Saturns and some other GM vehicles. They did look the same. I am going to go back and give it a try I think. The Saturn was a 97 and there was a Grand Am(?) that was a 96. I may take the one out of the Saturn, it looked better.

Re: P1404

The one I grabbed out of the Grand Am seems to be working fine. So far, no CEL.

That's good info Marc! I knew I'd seen other GM vehicles with the same looking EGR valve. Do u remember what year/engine that GA had?

Not sure about the year, maybe a '96. There was a '97 Saturn that had a similar looking EGR in it, but it was harder to get at. There was a thread over on Planetisuzu (in Gizmo's post there is a link) that mentioned the interchangeability.

The engine I got it from was one of those 3800 V6's I believe.

yea, it's off, so that's good. I did notice that the numbers on the tops of the EGR's are different, plus, they are different part numbers to order online. With that said, they look identicle except the connector is on the opposite side. The connector is identicle though,, and it does plug in fine. I would like to think that if it didn't work the CEL would come on. As far as it fitting, it drops right on perfect.

Re: P1404

I just pulled, and then erased, this code, P1404, which is supposed to indicate EGR issues.

Idle was very rough at times and eventually I got the CEL.

I disconnected the battery (which is key), and then disconnected and removed my Idle Air Control Motor (which is very simple).

The pintle and the port look clean.

I reinstalled the IACM, connected the battery, started it up, and drove. Runs great. Very smooth.

The CEL has not come on again yet.

Any time the idle gets rough, which has happened quite a few times in the 14 years I've had this car (currently at 254,600 miles), I pull and/or replace the IACM.

The key is to disconnect the battery, since if you replace the IACM without disconnecting the battery, the engine will run extremely rough, and could possibly damage it (?).

Once the battery is disconnected and then reconnected, the system calculates and sets the required parameters automatically.
