buick trouble

my 1990 buick regal with a 3.1 v6 has 11 inches of vaccum on idle. Intake gasket replaced and has good compression. Any clue what could be wrong.

How is it idling?....smooth?...rough? If it's smooth, don't worry about it. If the idle is rough, check every vacuum line and also the power brake booster. That could be leaking too. Pull the vacuum hose off the brake booster and seal off the hose end with your thumb. Does the engine smooth-out? If it does, you have the answer staring you in the face. Also, it's probably about time to replace all those deteriorated vacuum hoses. Personally, I'd use the heavier fuel hoses instead of the cheap vacuum hoses.

Re: buick trouble

That is a low reading if in park or neutral. My 3.1 had a vacuum leak where the large hose went into the manifold near the throttle body. How does it run?
