Boring the KA24DE
Hey, I have been sold on keeping my KA24DE and turboing it, but before I turbo it, I was just wondering, has anyone bored/stroked their engine here? What displacement can you bore/stroke it to? Also, if/when I bore/stroke my engine, where can I get ahold of custom forged pistons? I was hoping just N/Aed alone I could get at least 200hp@crank... A little liberal, but I have my dreams... Also, anyone know some really worthwhile injectors for the KA24DE?
I plan to turbo my engine for sure, just in case I wasn't clear about that, and if it's worthwhile enough, I will bore/stroke it ALSO. I will appreciate any and all responses to this, even if it's calling me a jackass for asking this question. Thanks guys. Peace!:smoka:

Getting that type of power and keeping it streetable will be hard, but possible. An upgrade like that may end up costing ~3k for full rebuild and upgrade. However, the KA is not the best motor to upgrade NA. Most people who build their KA's get about 180 or so. If you are looking for more, you will need NOS. The best route is turbo, there are many turbo kits avail for the KA.. that is the best choice.
Of course, you can always keep it simple and go SR. It just depends how you want to spend your money. If you go SR, you are getting a USED motor and its stock OEM quality. BUT USED. If you go KA, you are building a forced induction system for an OLD motor with miles on it. Regardless of which route you go, proper build up should be top priority. That means taking apart the motor and performing cleanup. That is why I havent done any heavy motor upgrades with my car, I am waiting for the right time.. rather than rolling the dice and hoping I get a clean SR. - Mike |

Alright, guess I didn't make myself clear... I meant I was going to bore it ~AND~ turbo it... MY KA24DE only has 26,000 miles, so it's not really old if you know what I mean.
I sort of figured out that the emissions, which is one of my primary concerns, would be a hard thing to get around. I'm almost dead on that I'm gonna turbo my KA with a FMAX kit, forged pistons, rods, new ecus and a few more things. Thanks for your input

Alright, if that is true, I guess its just time for pistons rods and a turbo kit...

i'm sure it can be bored/stroked a little more but i just dont think it would be worth the money involved

The engine(KA) already has more displacement then most honda engines already...

Finally, someone said it.
Want to make power with your KA24DE? Buy a turbo kit. Quote:

with cold battery side intake
high comp SOHC early year pistons 93 octane Stand Alone systen w/ TPS no maf needed. wicked cams Underdrive pulleys Headers Test Pipe catback exhaust(60mm) this would bring u to the arena of 200rwhp on a KA24DE. this is about everything you can do to your KA24DE while keeping it NA. You could also port and polish your head and oversize and 3 angle valve job on your valvetrain, also some lightweight parts wouldnt hurt. Custom buiilt intake manifold and maybe a bigger Throttle body. If I were going to keep it NA, I would also get some lightweight wheels, gut the car and lighten it, lightened flywheel, and a lightened driveshaft. with all that done you would be way faster then a stock SR setup. YOu might even have a chance against SR's with upped boost on stock turbo but anything above 12psi id say you would get smoked in the long run if its on highway especially. On the NA engine your power and torque would be better on the low and and you have no turbo lag.... so a 200hp NA ka24de would be a tad quicker then a turbo 200hp Sr20det. |

Destroke?
I've read that people have used ka24 cranks to stroke their FJ motors.
Is it possible to go the other way and destroke the KA with an FJ crank? If you could, you would have a much better rod ratio for boosting the motor... I've been thinking about doing this, but don't know the engines specs. You would have to know the deck height, among other things, in order to pick pistons and rods for an apropriate compression ratio. Please, someone chime in with some info on this... |

injen intake hotshot header 3" catback exhaust sr20det injectors 300zx fuel filter walbro fuel pump iridium spark plugs ecu upgrade with faster auto shift and higher fuel flow electrical fans port and polished engine rebuild any other ideas people? i might be running somewhere in the 14's with all of this if i keep running 94 octane and amsoil synthetic. i know a turbo is a lot more cost effective but i'd like to see how fast i can get this thing with a "stock" engine. as long as i have this car i'll keep building it up slowly. hmm i dunno maybe ill just keep it as it is now and get a turbo next year.... still wondering.
