2002 2500 hd 6.6 duramax oil in crank case

My nieghbor just bought this at a dealership 300 miles away. He stopped half way home and the oil pan was full of diesel so he changed it. Got home and it is full again. Dealership wont return his calls. 202k. miles. I'm leaning towards the injector pump any ideas?

Or stuck injector, don't run it this way, get it to a qualified repair shop.

these have had many injector failures ,the 6.6L Duramax Diesel engine , on this vehicle [RPO LB7- VIN Code 1) engine. A problem with the fuel injectors could cause the service engine soon (SES) light illumination, low power, hard start and/or fuel in crankcase. On some vehicles, this problem may be covered by the manufacturer Special Policy Adjustment # 04039A.The cost to repair the Fuel Injectors is estimated at $2800.00 for parts and $825.50 for labor.

hope he got it cheap !

Try this site for great diesel help. They are especially geared up for the DuraMax. On the pre-DuraMax motors the injector pump would be #1 on the list.

Unless it was sold as is time to find a good lawyer.

First thing to do would be run a cylinder miss test on it that would tell you if you have a bad injector.
Also down in the lower valve cover there is return lines on the injectors that could be leaking fuel in crankcase.
As said a lot of high priced injector problems on that engine.
A set of injectors can run over 3 grand installed.
Find a good repair shop that is trained on that engine to check it out.

Re: 2002 2500 hd 6.6 duramax oil in crank case

yes...don't drive the truck. Clearly fuel injector issues...$$$ Most likely will need the injectors looked at, very common to have to replace injectors on duramax and they are expensive both in labor and cost. I think the 05 and newer dmax engines have the injectors that are not under the value cover (preferred location).

Re: 2002 2500 hd 6.6 duramax oil in crank case

Thanks for all the replys. I'm still messing with it. All injectors were checked and they said 1 was leaking it was replaced and it still gets diesel in the oil. I took the pump off and pressure checked it with 140 psi of air and didn't find any leaks while the injectors were out. I'm thinking of pulling the pump back off and takeing it to the rebuilder. This thing can idle for hours and not gain oil but 3 miles on the road and it gains a quart. Thanks again!

The #7 injector is a common culprit on that motor. But there are also other reasons to get diesel in the crankcase on any diesel. A cracked head can also do it.

Re: 2002 2500 hd 6.6 duramax oil in crank case

a split head gasket between the injector and an oil port can also put diesel in your oil. or a SEVERELY scarred piston wall can also cause diesel to get in the oil at higher speeds and possibly not leak through at low speeds.

Talking Re: 2002 2500 hd 6.6 duramax oil in crank case

A failing injector will not flood your crank case with fuel. It can dilute your oil with some slight fuel but probably not that you can detect but rather smell. Diesel in your crank case has to come from the upper half of the injector between the head and valve cover. Even with all the warranty talk it is going to be your fix unless you want to pay. Anyway causes, injector body or housing is leaking on top of the head between the valve cover witch is normally not an issue with these, Your upper bonnet the line that is screwed to the top of the injector through the valve cover can leak, each injector has a fuel return line in the shape of a z connecting to each injector and ending in a banjo fitting into the head. These lines have several seal washers between them. each injector has a spacer of about 1 inch coming out and then attaches to the return line itself. It is very possible that one of your return lines are cracked or the seal washers have failed. You have to pull all of it and inspect very closely and find the cause. Reseal all injectors with a reseal kit from your local fuel injection dealer. Use DIPACO DIESEL PARTS made in USA part # RTF 26402 Be sure to get coolant as you will have to remove your upper radiator hose, and your valve cover gaskets, rocker box gaskets. Use rubber gaskets and 3m spray adhesive to stick your gaskets to the removable parts. Easy for future repairs. It is a job. Be careful not to strip the allen head bolts that hold down the covers.

Re: 2002 2500 hd 6.6 duramax oil in crank case

all your items will cause fuel to enter the crankcase.

however since this is a 2001-2oo4 6.6L duramax engine the "lawsuit" caused GM to admit to these "INJECTOR" issues , and obviously the related gasket/engine failures. this is no random or maybe . this is all of these as having this fuel in the crankcase so severe that fires and total engine seizing IS widespread.
