to much ampage?

OK so brief history.
-sister gets car
-sister is moron drives eclipse with no oil
-Ka-boom
-refurbished engine installed
-major issues with computer (finally fixed)
-losts of rust parts replaced
-frankin car

Alrighty so this 99limited edition eclipse was haveing problems starting/staying started in the cold.. Battery drains out so we jump it.. it runs and we get it parked.. instantly try turning it back on.. click click click (bad altenator!) Replaced battery (brand new) replaced altenator with 90amp instead of stock 75amp.

Drives like a DSM is supposed to drive!(except battery light is on) get 1 block from my destination (9-10mile trip) it dies and wont start. it turns over but right when altenator is supposed to take over power it gets nothing.

check under the hood.... check fuse panel 120Amp altenator clutch fuse is blown. unhook battery, replace fuse, rehook battery, turn key POP! fuse blows again...

I R ANNOYED! suggestions? Talked to mitsubishi parts/mechanic They don't make a fuse bigger then 120amp would have to go aftermarket

Update
Tried another 120A fuse and it instantly popped when rehooking the battery. Can FORCE the car to drive.. turn it on give it gas on foot on gas pedal to keep rpms from dieing out other on brake to keep from driveing through stops.. could really use some help LOL

Re: to much ampage?

Got the PM but not too sure, bud.

I don't think the higher amp alternator should be blowing the fuse. People replace alts with the higher ones all the time for mostly their systems, and don't have any problems. Did you recheck all the wires and make sure it's properly grounded? I would personally run a little thicker new ground from the alt.

Last but not least, I would buy a 75amp alternator and install it and see if fuse still pops. You can always return it then, but just use it for testing purposes.

Oh, you said problems with teh ECU? Did you replace it with the same year?

Re: to much ampage?

ya the ECU was being a Biatch when it came to checking the monitors for the emissions.. wouldn't show any for some reason for almost 3 weeks....

Anyways i rechecked Everything and finally realised the power to the Alt was grounding on the Alt itself... placed a plastic guard to prevent that and TADA! problem fixed.. thanks for the responce and your time mate... appreciate it

Not a problem. Glad it something easy. Lucky it didn't cause a fire neither.

I askled about the ECU because the voltage regulator is built into the ECU and are known to cause problems here and there.
