1997 cr-v vibration when braking

My sister has a 1997 CR-V that has a bad vibration when braking. It seems to only happen when the car is going above 35mph and the brakes are applied. It shakes the whole front of the car dash, steering column, etc. I have read on here that the propeller shaft bearings can freeze up and that the rear differential could also cause this problem. However nobody seems to have the same issues as far as when brakes are applied. I was wondering if anyone had this problem and what the fix may be. Thanks

generally this would be from a warped rotor, with a slight warp only really showing up with high speed braking. coming down a mountain and using the brakes a LOT or going through a deep enough puddle while the rotors are hot can cause warpage. if you want to check this out yourself you can jack up the most likely (front) wheel and take the tire off, set the brake really well and carefully start the engine and ease it into gear. the naked rotor will be spinning before you and you can check for warpage with a popsicle stick or a hundred dollar dial indicator as you wish. if you have a lot of miles and the rotor(s) have been machined before check prices on new rotors as well as the cost of machining (way cheaper to take them off and deliver them to the machinist- lots of auto parts places do rotors). never just do one side but you can do fronts or backs separately. best guess is the front rotors because they're the ones that do the bulk of the stopping.

We just installed new rotors. We were told by a mechanic that honda crvs are not good with aftermarket rotors and that we should order some from honda and it would fix it. Not for sure how much truth is to this.

so do you mean you already did the rotors before the initial post and that had no effect on the problem, or did you just do them in which case you didn't say whether that has fixed the problem or not.
