Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
Nicely done! Can't wait for the Schmutz. Did you just spray flat clear on the chromed centers this time?
I can see the point Paolo is making about the livery and I think he is right, but then you would not be able to change the driver names (Nice detail!) Regards, Tonie |

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
Dear Paolo and Tonie,
and all the others of course! First of all thanks for your comments!! Very much appreciated. Very interesting points to talk about, only some small remarks from me to explain my motivation on that one and / or reasons for this special project. I was very tired yesterday and didn’t take the time to point it out a bit clearer. First thing is that I simply wanted to have my own racer and name on it..;-) You are right, there are some, not many, nice and attractive liverys and Porsche designs out there (but that depends on every single observer!). This would end up in a replic of a real racer with a real fate and real reference. That’s the elementary point. I had that “feeling” and affinity when doing my DBR9. But this Porsche is the sum of my individual “what-if’s” and ideas (especially of the logos and appearance) BUT nevertheless being realistic and logical at all and in every way. Unfortunately i’m not rich enough to possess a real one so this is my miniaturized version….;-) And I planned some real damage, dirt and dust on it. A unique subject. All that would make it not easier with a real racer. What if the /my choosen real livery was not involved in a collision? Just read Paolo’s note, “to find the car you like, damaged as you like”, THAT’S IT EXACTLY, THANKS!!! About the wheels / rims. I absolutely agree and must admit that the grade of impurity is too low. When looking at the pictures today I come to the same opinion. I will have to find a way BETWEEN my two “versions”. I’ll return to them once again for SOME more dust. That will look better and more realistic with the finished body / car. THANKS for your arguments!!!! Confirmes me at my impression. All the best Jochen |

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
We all have been waiting to see the paint scheme, and it was worth the wait - looks great!
But, I see a fight in the pits from the tire companies reps. You have a Falken sticker and running Michelin tires!?! You need a bigger Michelin decal to cover it up. I can't wait to see it dirty! Tim Bradley |

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
Hi Tim,
thanks for your comment. Please note that there are mandatory sponsors for every participant / car, irrespectively from the(ir) individual markings: - FALKEN (tyre brand) - BILSTEIN (dampers, suspension) - ZURICH (insurance) - ePost-BRIEF (Deutsche Post) - GT Grand Tourismo (Playstation) You won't see one car running the 24h at the Ring without them. All the best, jochen |

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
It's called 'Contingency Sponsorship' and almost every race series has it.

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
Jochen,
Thanks for your comments, but I have to respectfully disagree with you. If it was a “mandatory sponsor” for tires, you would run that brand of tire. Your photo on your posts shows a Dunlop window shade. You know they are not running Falkens or Michelins. I have never seen two different tire companies decals on a real racecar, unless it was an accident. Show me the photos. There are many articles about the “Tire Wars” Look at these Rings photos: http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/Nurburgring-2009-08-23.html The Hankook 430 only has Hankook tires, showing their decals. The Team Felbermayr Porsche is runningMichelins with only Michelin stickers . There are no double sponsors of any kind. Veyron: I know about “Contingency Sponsorship”, as I have run my Corvette Zo6 and Porsche 911 in club events. Tim Bradley |

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
I don't know how contingency sponsorship sticker requirements go in the car racing world, but I raced Formula Extreme superbikes here in the USA in the late nineties and for a time the series was sponsored by "Pirelli" - we had very small Pirelli decals on our tech inspection stickers, which could not be seen by spectators, but I ran large Dunlop stickers because they paid contingency money for podium finishes. There's a difference between the sticker of a "series sponsor" and a "contingency sponsor" - but there would definitely be a tire war - The tire companies are very protective of their markets - John

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
Hi Tim,
obviously lots of "accidents" happened...........here are only SOME pics from the last years edition. Watch the cars in the background....... Hope this helps. I don't know how this can be a point. It is totally clear that all kind of Logos such as Pirelli, Yokohama, Dunlop and others are SIDE BY SIDE with the Falken logos......so in that case your appraisal is proven wrong. Thats it for me, yours Jochen good fight, good night |

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
Jochen,
I stand corrected! Thanks for all the photos, I would have lost a bar bet on that one, so, I owe you a drink! Are double stickers common in Europe? I have seen tire reps get real nasty to car owners about the "other guys" stickers. I don't think I have ever seen that here in the states. Again, thanks for the info, I have learned something new. Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
Tim - like I mentioned in my earlier post - it could a matter of "Falken" is a series sponsor since it is on all the cars, and requires all the participants to have the sticker, but "Dunlop" "Michelin" and "Yokohama" are contingency sponsors that the racer "entrant" has on the car to get the contingency money for various finishing positions. - John

Re: RINGKÄMPFER Porsche 997GT3R 24h
Jochen,
Thanks for your offline email and enclosures last night. I'm starting to learn more about the "Ring" As you said in your email: But this is ONLY for the 24h-race at the Nürburgring, the VLN-Series do have others…………strange, seems like a science of its own……… I absolutely agree, somehow a kind of oddity, BUT, well the RING is not as all other tracks…………;-))) Tim Last edited by Tim Bradley; 05-31-2012 at 03:20 AM. |
