Subaru Legacy night stage lights scratch building tips

I am hoping to scratch build some night stage lights for my Hasegawa 1/24th Subaru Legacy, but as an inexperienced scratch builder, I've no idea where to start. Can any of the excellent model makers/scratch builders on the forum offer any tips as to how to create the shapes and what materials to use to get me started. Or just any tips in general as to how I could create these night stage lamps..?? Many thanks in advance guys...

Re: Subaru Legacy night stage lights scratch building tips

I would suggest to start from something existing as modifying is (to me) always simplier than entirely scratch-building.
Maybe the ST185 Celica light pod ?
Usually plastic card and putty are your best weapons, some use metal but I can"t help with metal...
I also used in the past (especially when building figurines or wargames parts) modeling clay hardening on air to get the shape but it's not always strong enough for scale models...
I hope this helps...

Thanks Phil!! I have a spare Celica pod to hand so I'll take a look at it and see if it can be modded to suit..

Re: Subaru Legacy night stage lights scratch building tips

If I recall correctly some of the Hasegawa Corolla WRC kits came with a light pod that might also work as a starting point. All others I can think off (Tamiya Escort, Tamiya Impreza WRC, Ford Focus WRC) have the two central lamps higher rather than all approximately at the same height as the Legacy light pod you show.

Have you checked out the Renaissance website. Pretty sure they do light pods for various cars.

Yes, I've also emailed them direct to ask if they had any future plans to maybe release the lights, but I got a firm "no plans at all". It's a shame as their lights are always excellent quality. I also wondered if I could have them 3d printed? But I wasn't sure how well that would work..

The Tamiya Celica GT Four Monte Carlo winner may also be a good jumping off point for a set of lights too.

They have them for the Impreza, but not for the Legacy.

Yes, I have the Impreza lights, they are excellent. That's why I really hoped with the re-release of the Hasegawa kits a while back, someone might just release the night stage lamps..

Yes, I have the Celica kit and just took a look at the lights, could be a reasonable starting point for conversion...
