Seat Belt Warning Light
Hi,
My driver side seat belt warning light won't go off. It was intermitent for couple months. In the beginning, the light went on after the seat belt was clicked and went off when released, just display the contrary condition. Now it will not go off at all. Anyone else has this problem? How do you fix it? |

Re: Seat Belt Warning Light
I have the same problem with both the driver and passenger side seat belt warning indicators on my 1999 Sienna. Did you ever get this solved?

Re: Seat Belt Warning Light
I too have a 1999 Toyota Sienna & shortly after purchasing the vehicle, the driver side seat belt light on dash has begun flashing when the belt is latched in, although it doesn't happen consistently. Did anyone figure this out?

Re: Seat Belt Warning Light
I've had the same problem on 1999 model. Seems to be a random occurrence. Been going on for a half year. Seems to depend on seat(s) being occupied: on the driver's side only when there's no one on the rider's seat, on both when both seats are occupied.

Re: Seat Belt Warning Light
I have the same problem with my 1999 Sienna passenger side -- the seat belt warning light never stops flashing. Is there some sensor in the seat that can be easily replaced by a non mechanic like me?

Re: Seat Belt Warning Light
The problem is a defective position sensor. It's integrated with the seat belt mechanism. I took it apart and it's a pretty bad design. The problem is that the sensor is a rotating wheel kept in a plastic cap. And the cap deformed probably due to heat and pop open. This make the wheel disconnected from the axle and may spin freely sometime. Thus the warning light goes on and off randomly, depends on the rotation angle of the wheel.
I would say this is a pretty bad design, the sensor should be in the click location and sense if the belt is clicked. This design will make the warning light go out as soon as you pull the belt, doesn't matter if it's clicked. I tried to fix it by pushing the cap back and seal it. But the design is pretty bad and it can easily come out. Replacing the whole thing is the solution. |
