Re: AF Group Build: A Tribute To The 60 Red Years
Quote:
The Scuderia Ferrari was founded December 1, 1929 - but was not building cars but preparing Alfa Romeos and other cars for private racing drivers, later took over the racing department of Alfa Romeo. Ferrari himself was quite successful that way until WW II ended racing. Just before the war stopped all racing activities in 1939, Ferrari left Alfa with a big bang and was contractually obliged not to enter or produce cars under his own name. He built his own car independently based on Fiat parts and this was called Auto Avio Costruzioni, Tipo 815. 1939 was also the year Ferrari set up what you could call a factory. But war demanded different things than racing cars, and, with the exception of the Tipo 815, the factory produced hydraulic grinding machines (to which a German company held the patents). He did this earning good money providing these important tools to the war machine in his country. 1943 was the year the company opened the new factory in Maranello. Italian law forced important industries to decentralize and thus avoiding beeing to vulnerable to the Allied's bomb raids. But Enzo never gave up the idea of building racing cars of his own. Directly after the war ended, planning and design went under way. The first Ferrari engine was on the test bed in September 1946 and the completed chassis of the prototype 125 S was ready for the test drive accomplished by Enzo himself at March 12, 1947. And I think this is what the Ferrari organization has in mind as 'point zero' in measuring its history. Just imagine: Half the world was in wreckage and this guy realised his dream. A 12 cylinder sports car. Unbelievable! Sorry for beeing quite eloquent, but Ferrari history is that complicated. And the biographers took lots of more pages on this subject ... Thanks for enduring this, Paul

I'm definitely in. I take it by the rules then that the kits don't have to be stock?

Re: AF Group Build: A Tribute To The 60 Red Years
Well, looks like I need to finish a F430, 360/Challenge, F40, F50, one of 8 Enzo's, and one of 3 FXX's by the end of this year?! Maybe I should just finish a damn model, then worry about which Ferrari, lol.
I am so in!!! This is going to be great! |

Re: AF Group Build: A Tribute To The 60 Red Years
Thank you Paul for your wonderful article, we learnt a lot!
I'm sorry guys for my unclear explaination as the rule is actually no rule. Yes you can build F1 cars, SP cars, prototype, one-offs, RHD, us spec, concept cars...what ever you like! And also you can build 1/43, 1/24, 1/20, 1/16, 1/12, 1/1...what ever you like! And also also you can enter with multi-entries...just do what ever you like to celebrate this feast. |

Re: AF Group Build: A Tribute To The 60 Red Years
I'm in. So many Ferrari's to build, it'll take me 6 months just to decide which one to do! I might do an F430 Spider, I have an excellent book on the car I got for Christmas a few years ago.
