Shortage of new cars caused by storage of computer clips

I know that there is shortage of new cars caused by storage of computer clips but I see new cars on large car carriers at car dealers. What if the lease is up on a car and someone wants to trade it in for a car that's affected by the shortage of computer chips?

I guess they only have 2 options. Re-new the lease or pick a car on the lot.

Here's what I have garnered --

global auto production cut back due to covid.
Chip manufacturers cut back production.
Video game demand skyrocketed.
Auto industry started ramping up production after covid peak....but....6-9 month lag time in chip production means that we're in the middle of the crunch right now.

In your shoes I'd extend the lease a year.

jeff, extend lease; if you can.. they might want the car back to sell..
i just had a friend fly to PA from parker, colorado, and drive back,
as the same truck here, they wanted $10K OVER msrp!
i'd say start looking for an OBD1 car (their prices won't be affected),
but because of all the 'cash4clunker' campaigns; good luck finding those..
like alee for fred said look to hold onto current lease; or make offer for your car..
