Oil Light flickers on and off

93 model. 178K miles. The oil pressure light came on a couple of weeks ago. The oil pressure switch was leaking quite a bit so I replaced it and that appeared to fix the problem. Now the oil light comes on with forward motion for a few seconds and then goes off. If I accelerate it comes on for a few seconds (less than 6) and then goes off. it does not come on when in neutral or park even if I rev the engine. Does not come on in reverse.

I don't know how to check the pressure since I only have an idiot light. Engine runs fine, no bad noises.

Could the switch be bad or could it be the oil pickup?

Any help appreciated.

Mitch

Re: Oil Light flickers on and off

I know this is a dumb question but did you check the oil level after you changed the oil pressure switch?
