Re: 1998 Ford Contour Roughly Idling
First off , what engine and is your check engine light on?
My first guesses are intake vaccum leak, or possibly an Idle air control valve. Both should give you a code of either rich/lean mix or oxygen sensor. These cars are known for these problems. Do you get a foghorn like sound from the engine compartment? Last edited by jsweeter; 01-10-2008 at 02:28 AM. |

Re: 1998 Ford Contour Roughly Idling
My cars engine is as follows... 1998 Ford Contour 2.5 L DOHC.. V6 Manual Transmission.. No the check engine soon light is not on at all.. The only thing I notice is that the RMP needle sometimes drop down almost to 0... If I step on the gas then it does not die.. Of course if I do not step on the gas it doesn't die all the way also.. What is a foghorn noise? Sorry I am very naive to some of this things...
thanks in advance John |

sounds like your egr valve is bad or you have a leak in your egr system. I had the same problem and I own a 1998 ford contour se. Hope this helps. Thanks.
