2002 Pathfinder alarm issues

I recently bought a 2002 Pathfinder SE. It runs great, but I do have an issue with the factory alarm system. I believe it's related to the doors, but I'm not sure. My car was parked a few nights ago, all doors closed & locked. At about 4 am, the alarm started going off. I unlocked the car with the keyless remote and went back to bed. I left the car unlocked, but 2 hours later, the alarm starts going off again. I used the keyless remote again to turn off the alarm; this time it stayed off.

I had this happen once before while the car was sitting a few feet away from me. No one had been near the Pathfinder; it just started on its own.

I think this may be related to the doors as my dome light will occasionally come on, go off, come on again... when I'm driving. When it does, I cannot lock the car doors using the door switch, but the open door warning light on the dashboard does not come on. It seems that the when I am accelerating, the light comes on. When the transmission shifts or the car slows down, the light goes out.

When I checked the door switches that make the dome light come on, the drivers side switch does not turn off the dome light. I replaced it with a new switch, but that still didn't fix the problem.

Re: 2002 Pathfinder alarm issues

Pop open your remote and look at the circuit board under the rubber button pad. You may have somehow gotten moisture into the remote that would be obvious if you find some white in color corrosion on the circuit board inside the remote.

That could be causing the remote to malfunction and set off the "panic" feature randomly.
