Tamiya 1/24 Honda Today 1986

All of the Tamiya box-stockers I have been cranking out lately were done for online Tamiya box-stock contest on another site - but mostly because these are the models I have in my stash, I want to build them, but not interested in building a superdetailed, or even mildly-detailed versions - they are perfect as is from the box. The contest ends July 5th, and I still have a week to try to squeeze model #8 to the finish line. As such, I picked a very simple kit:

1986 Honda Today. Tiniest kit box I've see in 1/24th. Original 1986 issue, just like I like 'em!

There are probably total of 40 parts in this kit, but the most interesting thing is that it is a motorized kit - and I intent on making it fully motorized!

Since there are not a lot of parts, I expect a lot of detail-painting, but that's just the nature of the beast.

The color will be Honda Sunny Yellow!

Re: Tamiya 1/24 Honda Today 1986

Most parts (like there a lot, lol) were cleaned up, painted in base colors:

Body was cleaned, sanded, panel lines re-scribed, then 2 coats of grey and white primer:

Then Honda Sunny Yellow (Tamiya Lemon Yellow de-canted and sprayed through airbrush) and 2 coats of 2K clear:

Brilliant! I assume you have hidden another sprue somewhere, because I couldn't even see 40 parts in your photo! :-)

Meanwhile, I have an update.
Assembled the engine, lol:

Put together.. erm...suspension:

Painted and assembled tiny wheels:

Completed chassis:

Painted the window frits - what a pain in such a small piece with so many of them!

Masked and painted all the black elements and trim on the body:

Took of the masks, painted headlight buckets chrome:

VERY carefully transferred old, brittle decal stripes. Was quite a job, but turned out great in the end.

Interior next!

Looking superb. Can I ask what you use for the chrome in the headlights?

Thank you!
For the chrome, I used Molotow paint markers:
https://www.amazon.com/Molotow-Liqui...3661731&sr=8-3

They are superb. Its an alcohol based marker, so it shines very nice, but paint takes forever to dry. I try to use them only on parts that I don't plan on handling, which is a perfect use here.

Re: Tamiya 1/24 Honda Today 1986

I'm on a home stretch with this one, which is no surprise given the number of parts!
Interior parts were painted in their base colors, then detail painted and assembled.

Completed interior:

Married it with the chassis:

Glued in the glass and joined the chassis with the body. Little stuff like lights, mirrors, and wipers left.

Model is completed:

Over the last 3 months of the "social distancing", I have reduced my stash of boxes by 8. Here they are:

Here is the result of the last 12 weeks of model building:

Cheers and Happy 4th!

Never seen this one before, very clean built and lovely collection.

What was the idea behind those motorised models? To me it seems like they can only drive straight and without any control.
