Re: Problems with headlights on
Most likely a bad ground signal. That's the only thing those lites in the back have in common. If there is a trailer wiring plug, that could be an issue also.

1. Buy a REAL service manual, study the wiring schematics, probe wires and connectors, and repair as needed. 2. Find a mentor to help you with #1. 3. Take it to a competent repair shop. I would remove the taillights. On the back side of the taillight, there's a long, narrow circuit board held on with a few screws. The original circuit boards were known for corrosion; and even the GM-updated ones corrode. I've had to replace the circuit boards for the taillights on my '88 twice now--once when I bought the vehicle back in '97, and again last summer. The original '88 circuit boards used round, brass-based bulbs. The updated boards use "flat" plastic-based bulbs. Boards are available from any auto parts store, or (probably) from GM. My first replacements came from GM, the second set came from NAPA. As said, the trailer harness connector (if used) is also suspect. My truck had one when I bought it, it lasted about three years after that, and then had to be replaced again. Available from any auto parts store.

Re: Problems with headlights on
With the headlight switch on, and someone watching the tail lights, try wiggling the wire harness at the rear. If the lights blink on or off, you've maybe narrowed it down some.
