You talked about adjusting the distributor which sounds like you have a SOHC. If thats the case replace the wires, cap, and rotor and be done with it. Almost guranteed it fixes it.

i think his distributor comment was in relation to old muscle cars for adjusting the timing. but you bring up a good point, Stealthee.
--->hink, is your 92 stealth a DOHC or SOHC?

Yeah I may have gotten confused in the reading. One thing to add though is a timing light can be used on all SOHC's and 91-92 DOHC's to advance igntion timing. Ignition timing is different than cam timing. On the SOHCs you adjust the distributor to advance the timing. On 91-92 DOHCs you can adjust the CAS to advance igntion timing. With the new style crank and cam sensors for 93+ DOHCs ignition timing was not adjustable.

Mine is the DOHC engine. I was talking about the older cars. I will be giving my age away here but when I was a senior in school my car was a 1970 Mach 1 . I bought it wrecked and fixed it in shop class. I graduated in 1973. Also drove a 1966 VW Beetle. I had more fun in that car. You could literally fix "any" problem it had with a flat bladed screwdriver. Also had a nice sized rear seat.... I put wheel adapters on it and ran 15" 70 series tires and also put headers on it and also installed a Hurst shifter. Zero to 60 times were somewhere around 40 seconds but we didn't care. Gas was 35 cents per gallon back then and I still couldn't afford to fill the Mach 1's tank. $2 worth of gas in the VW ran me all week.

Well being you have a 92 you have the adjustable CAS. You may want to check your base timing and make sure it is not somehow been retarded.

Will try to do some tinkering with the Stealth today. Right now it's just to hot outside. We(you probably also)are going through quite the hot spell.

I'm sorry to revive a 10 year old thread, but was there ever a resolution? So many threads with great advise with no follow up information about what actually corrected it.
