1999 Grand Voyager Se Rusted brake lines

Just have a quick question. I am replacing some rusted brake lines near the gas tank. I already have the rusted ones cut out. I want to know if this junction box is really needed. If not it would sure take out alot of bending the lines. Please reply soon. It looks like the line only come down the frame and bolt into the block and then straight out to the rear wheels.[IMG][/IMG]

Ok I have searched and found that it is called a brake proportioning valve or compensator valve. Is it needed? What is its purpose? Please reply soon.

Re: 1999 Grand Voyager Se Rusted brake lines

do not remove the proportioning valve or the brakes will not work correctly. I work in automotive enginnering here is a general rule. At the OEM level if a nickel can be saved the OEM will do it. Meaning they wont put a part on the car unless really needed.
I have found that if you smear marine grease on all the steel brake lines on the car the rusting will be stopped. I have done this and the grease is still on the line a year later. Marine grease works better.
