Yep...even with turbo...those are the specifications that are listed in the S40 brochure and my Canadian CarGuide magazine for the 1.9T model.

There may be difference with other models though...

In northern europe, whwre i live, we have two turbo models on sale.
165hp (low pressure turbo engine) and 200hp (high pressure turbo engine) My own s40 with 165hp has chipped over 210hp.

Uhh... In the states the only version you can get is a light pressure turbo that puts out 165hp. In other countrys you can get the high pressure turbo that has 200hp.

Re: ? about the s40

Why did you hate your S40? Did you have major problems, or was it just under powered? I live in the U.S. and was interseted in buying a used V or S40. I have had many VW's and wanted to try something else, and the Volvo caught my eye. I have never own a Turbo.

Thanks

Re: Re: ? about the s40

I think there are two different conversations here. I'm guessing the Volvo S40 that caught your eye is the new 2004.5 model which is head and shoulders above the version it replaces (much better handling, better power from 5 cylinder engine options, much better interior, much more Volvo-like exterior, etc.)

The complaints you've seen from last year are for the outgoing S40 (which was sold in light-pressure turbo form or NA in the U.S. as the high-pressure turbo variants never made it here.) The new ones will start with T5 engines on the high-end (with S60R's 6-speed manual) and there MAY be a S40R to come as well...

Thanks.

Re: ? about the s40

Thanks Rollie,
What I drove was a 2002 v40. With out knowing anything about Volvo's... Are there any problems to look for in a used one that are common. IE: oil leaks, and things like that. Of course I would have a used car checked out. I'm a used car, oh.. I mean "pre owned" kind of guy. Any insite on this model would help.

Thanks
Bruce

Re: ? about the s40

To whom it may concern, just kicked to the curb a custom S40 upgrade based on an HKS GT25 turbo. Custom work include a full length tubular exhaust manifold W/collector (I remember when they were called headers), down tube(w/ separate wastgate tube), 30"x18"x2" intercooler w/ clean plumbing. Initial test drive was at 19psi, blew the the dipstick out (got the thing as a basket case, hadn't run in a year) but the bottom remained intact. The customer promised to take it easy untill the rings loosen up or break, at which time we will see what it can do on a chassis dyno. Stay tuned!
