gas guage stuck at half

Hi, one more question. my gas guage on 75 mgb is stuck at the half tank mark this car sat along time. should i just drive it and hope it breaks loose or do you think i should pull the sending unit and check if it is stuck and maybe free it up. thats in advance i appreciate the help.

Is you heat gauge working correctly? If heat gauge is OK remove the green/black wire at the sender, with ignition on temporarily ground the wire, the gauge should climb to the full position. Don't leave it grounded longer than necessary to check the gauge.

If heat gauge is good and the fuel gauge changes when grounded I would remove the sending unit and check it.

There is one other thing you should try before taking the extreme step of removing the sending unit. If the test suggested by Clifton worked and the gauge climbed to Full, you might still have a bad ground. This is not uncommon on MGBs. Do this test also: Connect a wire from the sending unit's grounding terminal directly to the negative pole of your battery. If your gauge now reads F, you have found your problem. Also, if the test Clifton suggested resulted in no difference in your gauge's reading, you may have a current "leak" as the result of frayed insulation or an insecure connection.
