Kia Niro oil change
This is a hybrid vehicle. My monthly mileage is about 500 miles. Of those 500 miles, about 50 come from the gas engine and the other 450 from the electric motor. That means in 6 months I barely put 300 miles on the gas engine. Why should I take my vehicle in for an oil change at 5000 miles as Kia suggests if only 500 of those miles come from the gas engine? The electric motor doesn't require an oil change. It is electric. Seems like a typical dealer rip off to me. Should I change the oil every 6 months or 5000 miles as the dealer suggests.

Re: Kia Niro oil change
That's a very valid question. I would not perform oil changes based on what the dealer suggests, but rather based on what the owner's manual / maintenance manual suggests. While the vehicle is under warranty this will be especially important.

Re: Kia Niro oil change
6 months is according to the maintenance schedule from what I found in a quick search. Its due to the ability of oil to break down. When I changed jobs and was only doing about 8k miles a year I started doing 6 month oil change intervals due to this.
