Porsche 911 (993) GT2 track car

Hi

This 911 is in progress for a long time now, but it got very close to completion.

The reason was that the paint was stripped 2 times, because the Tamiya blue was making dark spots. But I really wanted this blue so I found a lacquer paint from Gunze (Suzie Blue) which looked just like the TS44 Brilliant Blue.

I thinned various parts so they look more realistic. I tried to work a bit the headlights, but it wont work without replacing the lens with clear plastic. It will add more realism.

I'm not decided on the wheels, both look good. Anyway, here is the progress :

It's not my cleanest work, but I just wanted to get it over with. I still have another 5 of them to build (4 racing from the sponsors I like and a road one), so I will get better.

I'll post updates soon. Thanks for watching.

Re: Porsche 911 (993) GT2 track car

Hi

I managed to replace the molded in headlight lens with lenses made from clear sprue. Looks awesome, especially when light shifts and you see that lens reflection. Totally worth it, will do it to all my 993s.

Various things painted. Next I will do the wheels and I will redo the turn signal because they look off.
Also, still thinking if I should scratch build an exhaust system or just use the existing. If I let the existing, I will put some straight pipes because I don't really like the original ones.

Comments and criticism appreciated. Thanks for watching !

Realy good work with yours! I like how well your lights turned out. What did you do them? mines looks akward.
My boddy will need a respray anyhow now but did you paint the inside of the body that goes between the lens and bezel?`
Did you paint your doorgaps and sow on in the body or just leav them with paint?

Re: Porsche 911 (993) GT2 track car

Hi GvEman, thank you.

Yes I paint it completely. The clear part (headlight glass) is glued with just some clear using a paintbrush. Being clear, it will dry invisible.

What I did to the inside of the headlight:
- started to drill a hole which I left incomplete, to expose the black of the plastic and to simulate the parking light bulb;
- I then drilled the lens completely and replaced it with a clear plastic rod from the clear sprue of the kit. I just rounded it on one side and polished it to have it very glossy;
- before inserting the new "lens", I sprayed some Tamiya smoke paint over the headlight, in order to get the dark look.
What I should have done (and I didn't) was to paint the headlight glass rim (it has a small one) with smoke paint.

For the panel lines, I just made them really deep with a thin needle. I put the needle in the drill tool to hold it, just like a pen. Works like a charm, especially for rounded panel lines. In my pictures they have a little white in them, its just polish paste that I will remove.

I want to redo the turn signal lights, by creating the inside part. This will make it look very realistic, as there will be depth.

Very nice! I like the new blue too. Great work on the headlights, I'll have to do something like that on my GT3.

Re: Porsche 911 (993) GT2 track car

Thanks guys !

I too have a GT3 in the makings, but on hold (as many others) because I was expecting a green paint which didn't arrive anymore. I can confirm there is a lot of room for improving its lights (front and rear)
