Help me compare towable 4-down 4x4's please

My DW and I are seeking a 4x4 that can be towed 4-down behind our RV. Our RV is rated to tow 5000#'s but it is 22 years old so we want to keep the weight as far below that as possible and still have a nice enough 4X4. We also want to keep the price at or below $5000 because we still have to install about $2000 of towing and braking equipment. So, we're seeking a dinghy/toad/towable/4-down in which we will feel comfortable driving away from the campsite but still will keep us out of minor trouble in off-road situations like some of the roads in death valley, big bend of Texas, etc. AND it needs to seat 5. That puts the Wrangler right out of the mix up front.

Until yesterday I was convinced that the Jeep Liberty would fit that bill. UTube videos showed an acceptable performance, the weight is around 4000 pounds and the used price for 10 years old is about $5000 which is at the top of our price range. HOWEVER, the Libertys in that price range - that is to say those before 2007 - are poorly thought out, the whole thing seems to be made of cheep, thin plastic.

Now, my DW and I have moved on to consider from a dozen alternatives used from 2000 to 2009. If you have any opinions, good or bad, on any of these, please respond.

These are from Motorhome Magazine's Dinghy list. It's not exhaustive but a lot of information to sift through:
