Audi Quattro

I originally built this one for Tamiya in the early 90’s. It was on display in the Tamiya America headquarters until they closed that facility down. Most of the built-up models were moved elsewhere but there was not room for all of them and the people at Tamiya were nice enough to contact the builders and ask if we wanted some of what we built back; this is one of them.

The Testors Classic White I used was already a bit too warm in color, and it had yellowed a bit more over the last 15(?) years. The decals were not holding up the best either, since I did not store it too well and it was covered in grimy dust when I pulled it out last week.

The cemented on parts came off relatively easy with minimal damage and the body was hosed down with Easy Off and allowed to soak. The decals came right off; the paint needed a second application for full removal.

A light coat of primer after scrubbing and some scribing. (I’ll fill the hole for the antenna in the roof.)

Re: Audi Quattro

Thanks guys.
This one was built before digital cameras were around.
I did take videos of all the models I built for the showroom, I'm not sure how well the images look today, assuming I could locate the tape.

Re: Audi Quattro

I have the graphics blocked out. I used decal stripe material to frame the black areas and brushed in the fill with Tamiya X-18. The red is left over decal stock I cut to fit. I’ll either brush paint it a brighter red or make a new set of decals for those parts.

Re: Audi Quattro

While the body was drying I took apart the interior. Doesn’t look like I need to do much to the dash…

Re: Audi Quattro

I freehand brush painted the red and the black blocks of the graphics and the window trim with Tamiya acrylics. It took a couple coats for the red to get evened out.
