$650.... Go!

Hey. whats goin on, ill be 17 tomorrow which means im buyin my jetta next week. I drove it today at the dealership, noticed the system had zero bass and didnt get loud at all at the far end of the volume knob.

I want to drop about $600-$700 on sound, installation is not an issue because I have a friend who works at a sound shop by me. I know next to nothing about sound systems.... But I know enough to ask here before I go buy something from Walmart.

Anyone have a recommendation for a sub/amp combo for 700? the head is pretty nice already, so i dont hav to worry about that. Or will I need a new head to support the higher wattage of the amp?

Also....How far would $100 take me towards replacing the factory speakers? Any recommendations on brands?

muchas gracias

Re: $650.... Go!

$100 will get you some decent Coaxils and $150-$200 can get you some good componets. how much bass are we talking about adding? to match factory speakers you can be more than satisfied for less than 400 easyily. if you are looking to seriously over power your factory stuff and eventually upgrade the front stage 650 can get you goin'
My Reccomendation if you are just looking to mach factory out put in the low end is Reaudio RE's or a shiva, or and atlas 12 or some of IA's lower line, or some of DD's lower line.
if you are looking to seriously over power it.
Koda or New Brahma or SX or Atlas 15 or Avalanche 15 or DD middle or ID....
for power it is woofer dependant but hifonics BX 1500 or 1800 will do well on pretty much all of thoes (some over power some under in a ported enclosure) the most expensive on there is the new brhama i beleive (i think adire is changing the price, they should) and the cheapest Image dynamics or atlas 15. really IMO atlas 15 ported with Hifonics BX1800D will not only well over power factory but it can be had for under $500.
atlas 15 $169
Hionics BX1800D $200 (Ebay)-$300 (authorized dealer/sounddomain price mach)
so tops $469
then $50 for an enclosures more if someone else builds it...but since yo uhave a buddy that hopefully knows what he is doing $50.
then the rest you can add to the $100 to replace factory speakers and get an RE componet set or Ascendant componet set if they ever come out with one and a 50wx2@4ohm amp or there abouts and you will have a pretty nice system.

Re: $650.... Go!

hey again, wound up getting a '05 mazda3s, its hott man. 6" speakers all around, BUT no subs. the bass is ok but not great, so lets go back to what we were saying before...

I started looking up the bx1800d, and its really expensive, I'm talking in the neighborhood of $450. Is there any place you can recommend that I can send sounddomain to for a price match?

Or, instead of that, do you have any other recommendations for an amp? For the avalanche, it looks like it's gonna have to put out 800w cleanly (sound quality, the tightness of the bass hits is alot more important to me than loud fdshgkfdsgfds sound)

So, what other amp has a good history of making the Avalanche bump for $300 or less?

A bx1800d should not cost that much, hit up www.woofersetc.com or ebay and you can get it much cheaper there. There's alot of other amps out there that are better, but that one's really good for the price.

Re: $650.... Go!

why in the world would you need a bx1800d for an Atlas 15? especially ported?

Re: $650.... Go!

beacuse...the atlas if 4ohm.... 1800w is at 1ohm... and to get full excursion with the atlas in most ported aplications it takes more than 300w..

His money could be spent more frugally on other things for his ENTIRE install...

Re: $650.... Go!

If this dude is getting an atlas 15 there is no reason he needs to spend all that money on a bx1800d. Get a profile CA600, CL600 or AP600.
