Re: Finding a fast 250cc bike in US

The only fast 250 I've been on was on the dirt.

Re: Finding a fast 250cc bike in US

hehe im a kiwi too
nz seems to have all the cool unresricted bikes from jap land i live in austrailia and alot of the 250s mainly 2 strokers are not allowed to be ridden by learners but getting back to the ninja i havent had much to do with them but me mate had a cbr 250 RR that thing used to rev its arse off ,i think 18,500 rpm red line on it and man it could put a lot of bigger bikes to shame under 100mph ,i couldnt get near the thing on my 1990 gsxr 1100 due to the cbr cornering alot better only when the road opened it up a bit was i able to pass him
i dont know what the laws are in the states about learners at the end of the day i dont care how good you are at doin wheel stands or how many dirt bikes or how many slow arse harleys you have ridden it dosnet give you a licence to go like a idiot on pubic roads ,leave that to the real men (like us)on real bikes hahahahahahaha
ps tell ya dad to sell that shitter to the scrap yard

Yes it will smoke a ninja 250 but it also is nearly impossible to get here. So good luck with that one. Also they are not that much faster than a ninja its the acceleration that kills a ninja.

The Aprilia is also about double the price, IIRC.

dont' worry man, u are asking wrong group of people... most people on this forum will bash on young gun and give you lesson and stuff.

I am young too, 21, and of course I've been your age, but I probably have better memory how its like when I was 15/16 than the rest of the people.

Let me respect you as a grown up, and I assume you know what's going on, and we don't have to tell you want to do. But again, be smart, have fun

250cc is great bike, they ain't slow either. Ninja250 might, but still fun as hell to ride. GP 250bike are fast as shit, only idiot think they are slow.

anyway, here are some links that you might think helpful.

Its is true about fast 250cc bike are mostly not street legal and expensive, example theses:
http://hrcusa.com/hrc/grandprix.asp

over there at Asian(i.e Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan)fast 250 bike are everywhere, for instance Honda NSR250, of course, Aprilia RS250, Suzuki RGV 250

These guys were the importers of lots of TZ and NS GP bikes to the USA
http://www.gpstar.net/motorcycles2.php

(noted they import street bike), you just have to catch them at the right time.

well, anyway, good luck. and here is one good example, already legal in US. 92' Suzuki RGV SP model...

Re: Finding a fast 250cc bike in US

I'm a young guy, been riding an 81 honda 400, was looking at moving up to a rebel 450, but I'm starting to fall for the virago 250. Problem is, I want a small bike, I'm not a heavy guy and although I can hold up my buddy's roadking or my other friend's R1, I don't want to fight it to stay upright, and I have no desire to be cookin down the highway on a two wheeled vehicle, after a massive nearly fatal wreck a year an half ago in my car, I lost that whole speed craze, sliding around corners etc. I enjoy the 400, more power than I'll ever need, I've opened it up twice since I started riding and it's just insane. Are there any small sportcruiser bikes left on the market? I'm talking rebel 450 style, under 500 cc most definitely. I don't understand why 250s are avoided so much in America. Took a ninja 250 out and it was too much. Couldn't keep it slow. I've ridden bikes for as long as I can remember, always off road, and after casing real bad and shattering my helmet, gave that up. Now that I have my M license, I want to be back on the road with something newer than an 81 (in poor asthetic shape to say the least) But nobody should ever rule out the 250s, especially to start on. If your first experience driving is on a sport bike, you'll never want anything slower. There's something to be said with staying on a small bike. Sure, anyone will outrun you, but you're still having fun, and *slightly* safer.

Re: Finding a fast 250cc bike in US

Dan, the Virago might be a nice choice for you. They are definately "traditional", and are supposed to be decent bikes. The other bike's name I'm thinking of has escaped me... I'll post back if I can remember it.

But on a side note, have you ever considered a pre-2004 GS500? They are a 500, but they are even more tame than the Ninja 500. And they are "naked" or "traditional" in style. Great bike with good handling. Check one out sometime.

Re: Finding a fast 250cc bike in US

I have a Z1000 and a Ninja 250R. The 250R will do an indicated 120mph. This more then fast enough for any new rider. Its a fun little bike, that you can flick around like its a bicycle. I would buy the 250R and put some miles on it. Then later you should be ready to step up to a 600 or whatever. The 250R will run 14's in the quarter, so its faster then most cars on the road.

Re: Finding a fast 250cc bike in US

Number 1 z601R I do 145 on a harley and do not think you know sh_t if HD are gay guess you need to grow up. I ride both HD /Rice rockets, you can find me at Sturgis and I will find you make sure you wear that shirt that reads Harleys are gay. (Bet my friends will explan it to you (all 500,000 of them) As for the young man you are not going to find a faster 250 in the states. I was stationed in germany and there you can pick up a road ready racing 250 that is very fast. (HERES THE TRICK) Remove all lights bring it in country (gray market) as a racing bike then put the lights and stuff back on DMV has no clue if the 250 flys or not. Be ready to spend a bunch of extra dollars if your heart is set on speed.
