96 Avenger 2.5???
I am working on a a 96 Avenger with the 2.5 and I am having idle problems.The car will idle but idles very rough and idles about 500RPMS.I have been up one side of this car and down the other,I was wondering if anyone has had any problems similar,any help would be appreciated .

I never had any idle problems with mine. Does it have an idle adjustment screw? Might be some kind of a vacuum leak. I know they can screw up the idle. If it has an IAC I would also check that.
If it acts like it missing when firing it may need new plugs and wires. As part of the tune up you will need to replace the distributor cap and rotor assembly too. It is really easy for anyone to do and it only costs about $45 for the cap and rotor. Last edited by 94StealthTT; 12-27-2005 at 05:12 PM. |

My 95 avenger sometimes idles rough as well. I have no clue why though.

I have a 95 Avenger and I had that problem. Have you tried replacing the rotor? When I did, it immediately brought my idle from 500RPM to 800-900RPM and ran a LOT smoother. Might also need an ECU Upgrade as it re-adjusts some timing/ignition problems/

EGR Valve needs cleaning or replacement. It is located at the rear of the cylinder head closest to the windshield. Remove the upper intake manifold to gain access.
