96 Nissan Quest GXE 3.0V6 Need Oil Recommendations OEM

I need to know what the OEM oil weight to use. Not sure if its 10w 30 or 15w 40. Thanks

Its in the owners manual. I use 10w 30 all year round.

The ticking is proably still going to be there. You may need a oil pump or a valve job. That is the worse case keep us posted on the outcome.

OK, also iam using Royal Purple, Iam at the point where I can do oil changes every 10k and the next oil change is at 210,000k, Right now the ODM reads 209,846. But Iam going to go ahead and change it early.

Dude, why in the hell are you using royal purple in a Quest? It's a minivan, not a camaro. And if you are worried about engine ticking don't wait 10k miles to change your oil, but at that mileage a little noise would be expected.

Fecomosis, You ask me why am I here? I am here to bask in the infinite wisdom of car gods such as yourself. You say I don't know jack about cars, however you are the nimrod running an expensive 15w40 motor oil in a 10 year old vehicle, who also believs that switching to a lower viscosity oil might make the ticking noise dissappear. I was simply stating that royal purple is a rather expensive choice for motor oil on a stock minivan. Believe me when I say this FUCK FACE, I have pooped out more information about cars than you will ever learn in wasted lifetime.

If it makes the car last longer, I rather pay for expensive oil. Many of my friends have over 400k on the same motor using royal purple, and still going strong.

OK I Found the problem it was rather simple.

I was low on oil! ROFL.

I did the oil change and it went away.

The oil must have leaked out the side of a oil filter.

LOL! WTF? You don't know jack about these engines do you?
ALL (and I mean ALL, I've seen one of maybe 30 that's quiet) of these things have noisy lifters, some worse than others. They are very susceptible to clogging with crud, but you can keep the noise to a minimum with religious oil changes (I do it every 3k with 10W30 dino oil and WIX filters) and occasionally add some Marvel Mystery Oil or ATF to clean things up. My former driver has 207k on it and has always made a little noise. My 95 on the other hand, I don't think they knew what oil changes were, as it has some lifters stuck permanently, and no matter how much ATF I run through the crankcase, it doesn't get better.

As for royal purple, I don't see why not, I'm still convinced that Mobil One saved my mom's 93 when she hit a tire at 65mph and blew all the oil out under pressure before she pulled over. We were back on the road after what had to be the most expensive conventional oilchange ever ($25 for 5qts of cheap stuff, a filter, and 10 minutes on the side of US35 lying in a puddle of oil) and we made it 400 miles home. Thank god for synthetic oil.

i think you are right about the lifters. i explained my ticking sound to my father in law and he immediately said it sounded like the lifters, so i did a search and came up with this post.

I will do an oil change and switch to a higher quality filter to see if it reduced the ticking.

My sypmtoms is just a ticking/clicking/knocking at start up when the engine is cold, within 10 seconds, the ticking stops.

Is this bad for the car at all, or just an annoying sound. i have done oil changes every 3k+, but always at jiffy lube, so I'm thinking their filters aren't very good quality and may have contributed to this.
